Holiday Happenings in North County
Don’t let the warmer winter climate fool you — North County San Diego does not hold back when it comes to holiday festivities. Born and raised in RSF, I have fond memories of the area’s Yuletide season. Visitors and locals alike gather to create moments that will last a lifetime. I recommend adding these events to your calendar this year so that you don’t miss out on any of the fun!
The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe kicks off the exciting month of December with tons of fun at the annual Olde Fashioned Christmas on December 6th. This event’s family-fun festivities include a soup challenge (benefits Shelter to Soldier), tree lighting ceremony, pictures with Santa Claus, arts and crafts, live music, and more!
The holiday fun continues all month long at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe with gingerbread house making, a weekend hot cocoa bar, and a transformation of The Huntsman Whiskey Bar into a holiday pop-up, The Ho Ho Huntsman.
There is more family fun to be had on December 8th in Del Mar Village at Santa by the Sea. This event is delicious as it is fun! At this free event, you can expect a L’Auberge Del Mar gift drive, tree lighting, photo opportunities with Santa and other holiday characters, and holiday treats and refreshments from local Del Mar Village restaurants. In addition to all the fun, the kids are invited to decorate Santa hats and write letters to Santa’s workshop.
You can celebrate the holidays all December long at the Rancho Valencia Resort. The festivities start at the resort on December 2nd with a tree lighting of their own, complete with choir singers, snow, and warm drinks. On December 23rd, you can pile the family into a horse-drawn carriage sleigh for a ride that you certainly won’t forget. Other fun on that evening includes cookie decorating, a holiday movie on the big screen, and more delicious hot cocoa and mulled cider.
Next on the resort’s calendar is a delicious four-course, prix fixe Christmas Eve dinner at Veladora. Save yourself the effort of cooking, hosting, and cleaning and experience the excitement and joy with holiday music, good food, and Christmas cheer.
A very special holiday traditional feast, prepared as a bountiful buffet, is scheduled for Christmas Day. Friends and families from all over will gather on the Croquet Lawn for snow globe making, cookie decorating, and photos with the Claus Family (including the reindeer!).
