Top 10 Things To Do While “Social Distancing”

Top 10 Things To Do While “Social Distancing”

It’s certainly an unprecedented time we are living in. Many of us are working from home, staying in, had a trip canceled, and are lost without our favorite sporting events.

There are plenty of activities to make the most out of this time of “social distancing”. From virtual game nights to breaking out the pots and pans, I’ve put together a list of my “Top 10” things to do. I hope picking even one of these activities may bring some cheer to you and your close family & friends.

1. Have a Game Night

Who doesn’t love a good ole’ fashion game night? Challenge your family at home with a little competition or make it virtual and connect with friends online via game apps and video conferencing. Some ideas to get the party started:

3. Cook Delicious Staples in Your Kitchen

There is no better time to brush-up on your culinary skills than now. Not to mention, meal-prepping while you prepare for the days at home. Looking for some inspiration? Here are some of my favorites:

Joe Beddia’s Homemade Pizza

Res Ispa’s Agrodolce Chicken

Yehuda Sichel’s Matzo Ball Soup

Zahav’s Hummus

Marc Vetri’s

Tagliatelle with Wild Mushrooms

Pea Butter And Bacon Toast

Edamame Dumplings

4. Have an At-Home Date Night

Co-inhabiting with your partner is very different than co-isolating! Break up the nights and remember you can still have fun at home whether that is cooking together or having a “date night”. Here are some ideas for couples looking to change up their routine:

5. Read a Book

This one seems obvious, but did you know reading is a proven stress-release outlet? It lowers both blood pressure and heart rate while increasing brain power.

6. Start Spring Home Maintenance

Spring is officially here, and that means spring cleaning for many of us. After these long winter months, there is no better time to check-on and up-keep the maintenance of your home, from gutters to shingles.

What should you look for during your check? Here are some guides:

7. Brainstorm Idea's for Home Improvement Projects

The best time to brainstorm home improvement projects? While at home! Take this time to be creative and put together plans for a refresh in the near future, or tackle small projects with the free time you have now.

8. Workout at Home

With the vast amount of technology that’s available, you can still fit wellness into your life seamlessly from the comfort of your own home. Look for online fitness classes giving free classes and promotions at this time. For example, Peloton is offering their online program free for 90 days.

9. Go For a Walk + Look at Nature

A breath of fresh air is what the doctor ordered. You can still follow CDC guidelines, while enjoying the great outdoors. In fact, it is proven that spending just 20 minutes outside or in a park can make you happier. Use the time you typically commute in the mornings or late afternoon to sneak in this time outdoors.

Here are some of my favorite places to get away in North County (without the crowds):

Torrey Pines Reserve

Batiquitos Lagoon Trail

Blue Sky Ecological Reserve

Iron Mountain Peak Trail

10. Get Rest + Strengthen Your Immune System

This is a time where we can catch up on rest and come back stronger than ever. Make sure to put yourself first and work on self-care while practicing social distancing.
